Kerry Wayne Self age 52 of Canonsburg died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in his home.
He was born August 6, 1965 in Houston Texas as son of Lenard M. (Sharon) Self of Houston, Texas and Jayne Minefee (John) Longley of Franklin, Texas.
Mr. Self lived in Canonsburg for the past ten years and was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Muse where he formerly taught CCD classes. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the Air Force Academy where he graduated in 1987 and a Masters of Arts Degree from the University of Texas in 1996. Mr. Self served with the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. He loved flying and was a pilot with Southwest Airlines. He had been a Scoutmaster and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Mr. Self loved to travel and enjoyed boating and history. On February 20, 1993 he married his devoted wife Lisa Pettko who survives. In addition to his wife and parents, left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children Abigail L. and Nicholas J. Self both of Canonsburg, his sister Tracy L. Self of Austin, Texas, and a niece and two nephews.
Friends are welcome from 4-8pm Friday April 6, 2018 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, and Darla Tripoli LFD 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 11:20 am on Saturday April 7, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday in Holy Rosary Church 246 Muse Bishop Road, Muse PA, 15350. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the United States Air Force and the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg Honor Guard. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.
