Donald T. Painter Obituary

Donald T. Painter, 73 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 in Waynesburg.

He was born on October 27, 1945 in Greensburg to Donald B. and Vivian Johnson Painter who preceded him in death.

On December 19, 1970 he married the love of his life Carole Goodlin who survives. They were approaching 48 years of marriage together.

He was a long-time member of Level Green United Presbyterian Church in Trafford.

Mr. Painter was a 1963 graduate of Penn Joint High School in Harrison City. He was a veteran having served his country in the United States Air Force. He attended the Air Force Academy for 3.5 years on a football scholarship.

He continued his education at Pennsylvania State University for his undergraduate degree. He then went on to earn his Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his Superintendentcy Certificate from Duquesne University.

Donald was a passionate school leader for his entire career serving as a teacher and vice principal of Penn Trafford HS, principal of South Fayette HS, and eventually employed by the Central Greene School District as Superintendent of schools for 14 years until his retirement.

He had many interests and hobbies including golf, hunting, and bowling in a league with his wife. He was a smooth ballroom dancer, along with his wife, and they danced at least three to four times every week at various venues with live music in the area. They belonged to numerous clubs where they practiced their ballroom dancing skills and met many great friends along the way.

Most important to Donald was being with his family. He was a devoted grandfather to his granddaughters and attended their sporting events, rarely missing a game.

He was a tremendous role model to all that had the pleasure to know him and a great leader in his community.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beloved children Margaret "Maggie" Allison (Jason) and Donald H. Painter (Kelly) both of Washington, a sister Fay P. Morgan (Blair) of Glenshaw, three beloved granddaughters Vivian and Charlie Allison and Roxanne Painter, nieces and nephews Carly Belsterling, Will Morgan, Michael Goodlin, Brian Goodlin, Stacey Rice, Matthew Rhoades, Gordon Goodlin, Samantha Goodlin, and Derek Cole.
