Elizabeth V. “Betty” Fartro age 94 of Canonsburg, formerly of Mt. Lebanon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Carmine and Pauline Novak Fartro.

Betty had been a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon and served as a lector and eucharistic minister. A graduate of Canonsburg High School she attained an associate degree from the College of Ypsilanti Michigan and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Los Angeles. She was a flight attendant for Capitol Airliners for a short period, flying out of Pittsburgh. Betty fulfilled her lifelong dream of travel and adventure by working for the State Department. While assigned she traveled to many faraway places such as Japan, Yemen, Rome, France and Hawaii. She received a plaque from the Department of State, upon her retirement in recognition of 31 years of service and dedication to the Government of the United States. Betty was a proud American, avid reader and politically active. She was very caring and generous to various charities, especially the Little Sisters of the Poor and Smile Train. Betty enjoyed playing cards, attending and hosting weekly Bridge parties at her residence in Mt. Lebanon. She was an avid snow skier and traveled the United States and abroad seeking out new and challenging ski slopes.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her brother Tom Fartro of Washington and her sister Lucy Cannon of Westmoreland and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents are five brothers Benjamin, Rocco, Tony, Joe and John Fartro, sisters Nancy and Teresa Fartro, Rose Churray, Pauline Churchel, Mary Kolarosky and Ann Niemiec.
